About Hebron

Hebron is located about three miles north of Camp Point, Illinois, off Highway 94. It has been in continuous operation for over 186 years, and is the final resting place for 49 war veterans from the War of 1812 through Vietnam.  There have been 23 burials since 2000.

The cemetery is divided into eight sections, labeled A through H.  Section H is further subdivided into three sections labeled I through K.  There are 46 rows of graves, starting with the oldest at the east side of the cemetery.  Newer burials are closer to the main gate, located on the west side.  There have been 20 burials since 2000.

The grave of Ira McFarland, the first burial in 1834, is located in Section F, Row 2

Operations

The Hebron Cemetery Association is a 501 (c) (13) nonprofit organization. A volunteer Board of Trustees governs the cemetery.  Annual meeting of the Trustees is held on the fourth Saturday in September and is open to the public.  The purpose of the organization is to assist in the internment of human remains regardless of race, gender, color or creed.  The Board of Trustees assures that the grounds, monuments, fencing and landscaping are kept in neat condition and orderly repair.

Since its establishment in 1834, no fees have been charge for burial plots.  For each burial a donation is requested.  The Association receives no monies from federal, state or county taxes to support operations of the cemetery.

The Hebron Cemetery Perpetual Endowment Fund, established in 1917, provides limited interest income that is used for upkeep and care of the grounds.

Donations are critical to support cemetery operations.  Information on how to donate is located on the Donations page.
